About Online Poker

Written By: Itay Paz

If you aren't aware of online poker, you probably don't play. Almost anyone who plays poker in land based casinos or with friends knows that there are many places to play online. Though the rules of the game and the wagering is very similar (when wagering is allowed, that is), there are some marked differences. However, despite the differences, it is a booming market and more and more new sites that offer poker and other types of gambling games are showing up online all of the time. There is a lot of money to be made, and there are some who are taking advantage of that by opening up their own sites.

One important thing to remember about online poker is that it is not legal for everyone to wager money when playing online. This is something that has angered many in the United States. The laws in regards to this are hard to follow and remain unclear, but one law has slowed it down somewhat. There was a law passed that stopped financial institutions (credit card companies and banks) from helping a person fun these activities for those who are US residents. This has forced some to stop playing for money, or to find alternative and slower means of depositing money into a playing account. However, they are still allowed to play for fun. Some say that this takes an essential element out of the game.

Despite the unclear laws, many still partake, and the numbers are high. The revenue from online poker keeps growing and the numbers of places to play online poker are going up all the time. This game has been around for a long time, and it only makes sense that it would have a strong hold online. The problem with the internet is that some things that are acceptable are not acceptable in any type of physical location, and yet, things that are routinely played in casinos are considered to be illegal. This isn't stopping the players though, and some claim that nothing will ever stop them. It would appear, as of now anyway, that online poker is here to stay in one form or another.
